(Miami, FL) -- Marlins manager Don Mattingly will not return in 2023. Mattingly and the team announced Sunday they have mutually agreed new leadership is needed.

His contract expires after this season. Mattingly is wrapping up his seventh season with Miami, and will leave as the teams all-time winningest manager.

Meantime, the Marlins were denied the three-game sweep after a 6-1 loss to the Nationals in Miami. Lewin Diaz homered for the Fish in defeat. The Marlins begin their final road trip of the season tomorrow in New York against the Mets.
