JAY-Z is heading into the world of literature.
As per The Associated Press, the hip-hop titan and Roc Nation have partnered with Random House to birth a new imprint called Roc Lit 101. In a press release for the announcement, it was revealed that the publishing venture will feature "books at the dynamic intersection of entertainment and genre-defying literature." Among the releases scheduled for summer 2021 include a memoir by former Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia called Till the End, Danyel Smith's Shine Bright, which chronicles the story of Black women in music, as well as a book by Meek Mill focusing on “criminal justice and survival."
Additionally memoirs by Yo Gotti and Fat Joe, as well as a fantasy fiction book by Lil Uzi Vert, are set to be released via Roc Lit 101.
The new imprint will be spearhead by Chris Jackson, the publisher and editor-in-chief of the Random House imprint One World, and Jana Fleishman, executive vice president of Roc Nation.
"Our aspiration for the imprint is to create books that draw from the best of pop culture — its most imaginative and talented storytellers, innovators, and literary chroniclers — to create beautifully written and produced works that will entertain and enthrall readers, but also illuminate critical issues," Jackson said in a statement.
