The Department of Justice says it supports one of former President Trump's proposed candidates for special master.

In a Monday court filing late, Justice Department lawyers said they would accept Raymond Dearie, the former Chief Judge of the federal court in New York's Eastern District. Trump's other candidate was prominent Florida attorney Paul Huck Junior.

The DOJ also proposed two candidates of its own. Trump's attorneys opposed both of the department's picks.

West Palm Beach federal Judge Aileen Cannon must formally appoint a special master or independent arbiter to review documents seized during a raid at Mar-a-Lago last month.

Attorneys for the former president, in a court filing earlier Monday, called the feds' criminal investigation "misguided" and said it has "spiraled out of control." They're urging the judge to keep in place a directive to temporarily stop the DOJ from reviewing seized documents. The department wants the judge's order lifted.
