Busy Summer Travel Season Expected

Floridians are busy making their summer travel plans---but those who procrastinate may be left to take something different than they wanted or pay far more for what they do want.

That's the word from the American Automobile Association (AAA), which says now that international travel restrictions into the U.S. are lifted, there will be a massive influx of people coming to the States from other countries as well as Americans traveling to places like Florida for beaches, theme parks and other attractions.

AAA's Mark Jenkins says there is one travel industry that is back big time with vacationers. "We've seen a massive return to cruising since the pandemic. Cruise ships are filling up so fast."

All this demand for all kinds of destinations and activities will drive prices for gas, air fare, hotels, cruises, theme parks and other attractions up.

"Travelers just need to prepare for higher costs. So, you'll just need to budget for higher prices," said Jenkins. But he adds that sticker shock doesn't seem to be deterring people from traveling. More than eighty percent of Floridians say they will vacation this summer.
