Three Floridians Killed By Septic Gas On Hog Hunting Trip In Texas

A Miami Gardens woman among three Floridians killed on a hog hunting trip in Texas. Bastrop County Sheriff Maurice Cook says his office is investigating after twenty-six year old Denise Martinez and her friends fell into an underground cistern filled with sewer gas trying to rescue their dog who fell in first. That hole was filled with hydrogen sulfide.

The other two victims are identified as thirty-seven year old Elvis Garcia, and forty-five year old Noel Benitez.

Officials recovered the three individuals and transported the bodies to the medical examiner's office. The dog was recovered as well. Cook said they contacted about six different diving teams and none wanted to jump into the hole to recover the bodies due to the gas. A deputy from the sheriff's office ended up volunteering to remove the bodies.
