CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King just made history by going to space. On Monday, she returned safely to Earth after a short but powerful 10-minute trip to the edge of space. She flew with an all-women crew on Blue Origin’s New Shepard spacecraft. After landing, a proud and emotional Gayle said, “I am so proud of me right now,” before kissing the ground.
The spacecraft reached 346,802 feet, or about 65 miles above Earth. The full mission lasted just over 10 minutes, from takeoff to landing. During that time, the crew experienced weightlessness and saw Earth from a view most people will never see.
Before the launch, videos of Gayle nervously ringing the bell before boarding went viral online. Many people joked about how scared she looked. But the best part is that Gayle still faced her fears. She stepped way outside her comfort zone and completed the mission. Afterward, she even said she would consider going again.
